i. Measure the distance from the inside edge of the wood-support frame to the outside edge of the contemplated overhang.
ii. Subtract 4” to 6” for the portion of the overhang you intend to be left unsupported.
iii. Select the bracket length that's equal to your result, or the next larger size.
