Handles and a Stainless Steel Band Accent this Stunning Oval Boos Chopping Block
A sleek, stainless steel band wraps around the edge of this gorgeous maple chopping block, providing interesting contrasts in materials and looks, as cool and shiny silver intersects with warm and textured hard rock maple. Two sturdy handles secured to the steel band provide a safe and easy way to transport the board, even loaded with a carved roast. It's so beautiful you'll also want to use it for serving finger foods to family members and guests. Two sizes of this oval, maple chopping board are available: 20 in. long by 15" in. wide and 24 in. long by 18 in. wide. Both sizes provide plenty of space to tend to your food prep needs.
End-grain Butcher Block Is Renowned for Its Beauty and Durability
The cutting surface of an end-grain board or block is both a valuable kitchen tool and a work of art. Its checkerboard appearance reflects the method by which it’s assembled, as well as the innate beauty of maple wood. Each rectangle in this end-style board is a 2-1/2-inch tall column of North American Rock Maple. As such, its top and bottom reveal the grain structure across growth rings of its source tree. Dozens of these columns placed next to one another in an expanded tic-tac-toe pattern creates a natural mosaic that can be hypnotizing. Not only is the resulting checkerboard surface mesmerizing, it's also resilient – able to withstand knife slashes without suffering a life-threatening wound. You could say that end-grain butcher boards are immune to the old adage about suffering “death by a thousand cuts.”
There’s a Juice Groove on One Side of this Reversible Chopping Board
Juice grooves are quite common on chopping blocks. Just inside the edge of the board a channel is carved into its surface. It serves the purpose of catching juice and scraps from meat carved on the block, thus helping the chef avoid countertop messes. The reverse side of this Boos Block does not have a groove. Instead, it’s totally flat, making it perfect for use as a cutting board for bread or cheese, or as a striking serving tray for presenting appetizers or desserts. Here’s where the round block’s stainless steel handles will prove most useful. Regardless of which side of the reversible block you use more, you will need to re-oil the entire board monthly, using butcher block oil or cream. This will help keep the wood moisturized and free of unsightly and potentially harmful cracks. Consider adding Boos oil or cream to your order.
