This Striking Wooden Cutting Board Features Handles and a Wrap-around Band Made of Stainless Steel
If you’re looking for a superb gift for someone who enjoys cooking, consider this stunning, oval cutting board. It blends warm and beautiful Hard Rock Maple with sleek, cool steel. You might not ordinarily think of combining two such different materials and colors, but the end result is strikingly beautiful. The edge of this hefty, 2-1/2-inch-thick oval is slightly carved out to accommodate the steel band. Two stainless steel handles securely attached to the band make the unit easy to move. Choose from two models offered: ovals 20 inches long and 15 wide or 24 inches long by 18 wide. Since they weigh 22 and 32 pounds respectively, you'll definitely appreciate these sturdy handles when moving the your board around the kitchen and to the dinner table. It's so attractive you might wish to leave it there for use as a serving board. It also makes an outstanding bread or cheese board.
Edge-grain Style Butcher Block Is More Popular and Affordable
Among the various butcher block grain styles, edge grain style is preferred for its clean, consistent look. In its making, long, slender blocks of maple wood are laid face to face, “edge” side up, and bonded together using high-strength adhesive, heat and pressure, to form a rigid, durable board. As a result, the only seams that appear in an edge-grain board are those where the block faces meet. These seam lines run in a single direction, parallel to one another. This simple construction style, combined with the neutral colors found in maple wood – tan and light to medium browns – ensures the clean, non-busy look that edge-grain maple is known for. It’s also what makes edge style maple compatible with such a wide range of kitchen decors.
One Side of the Oval Board Features a Groove for Catching Juice and Scraps
A channel carved along the board’s circumference will help you collect the byproducts of your cutting and carving for easy discarding. Or if you are so inclined, you might wish to pour the juice you collect from carved meat into a cup or bowl and re-use it in a soup or a gravy. The opposite side of this reversible cutting board is smooth and flat, so perfect for slicing bread, cheese, fruit and more.
