This Distinctive John Boos Cutting Board Features a Juice Channel and Sturdy Steel Handles
John Boos & Company has been making the world’s finest butcher blocks for more than a century. Among their best-sellers are butcher block cutting boards with steel accents – part of the company’s outstanding Gift Collection. There’s just something visceral about the union of Rock Maple wood and forged stainless steel. And in the case of this beautiful edge-grain board, a little bit of the latter goes a long way. And who would have thought you could make an otherwise simple juice channel look as elegant as it does on this stately maple board? It’s available in two sizes, both 2-1/4 inches thick: ovals 20 in. by 15 and 24 in. by 18.
Edge-grain Style Accentuates Rock Maple’s Consistent Look
Rock Maple wood is the strongest of the North American hardwoods. It makes for one tough cutting board, but you wouldn’t know that by looking at it. It features a narrow range of colors that at most, vary from light tan to medium brown – colors often found in American kitchens ranging in design from traditional to modern. This neutral color palette contributes to the wide popularity of maple. In much the same way, edge-grain construction produces a clean-looking board that fits almost any kitchen. All of the wood strips used are arranged side by side. Since all seam lines run parallel to the length of the board, and because there’s little variation in the color and grain pattern from one maple strip to the next, you get a board with a pleasing, homogeneous look.
The Reverse Side of this Grooved Board is Flat and Smooth
Use the steel handles to flip it over to access its non-grooved side. Of course, this side is every bit as beautiful and useful. It’s so attractive, you’ll feel perfectly comfortable leaving it out on the dinner table and using it to slice and bread or cheese. Both sides, and the edge too, are finished with natural oil; specifically, a coating of Boos Board Cream with beeswax. The mineral oil in this proprietary blend seeps into the pores of the wood to provide deep moisturizing, and the natural beeswax leaves a silky protective coating on the surface. Remember to reapply oil monthly in order to keep the wood from drying out or cracking. Choose between Boos oil or cream during checkout.
