Or design a custom plank countertop in any of 15 wood species, up to 180"L x 72"W and with stylish, contemporary edging.
Wood plank counters are also referred to as face grain countertops because their top and bottom surfaces show the face grain of the lumber used to make them. Envision a hardwood plank. Its two narrow surfaces - edges - show edge grain; and its two wider surfaces – faces - show face grain. Although face grain wood is more likely to show knife marks, plank countertops are popular because of their cleaner look, which follows from face grain’s less busy grain patterns and the use of fewer, wider boards, producing fewer seamlines.
The use of boards of different widths adds to the natural look and appeal of plank countertops. Each plank runs the full length of the countertop. BB Co. standard-size plank countertops are available in two species – maple and walnut; in four widths – 25, 27, 30 and 36 inches; in nine widths from 3 feet up to 10 feet; and in three different finishes: unfinished, mineral oil or conversion varnish. The edging style on all standard size tops is “squared” (lightly sanded to alleviate any sharpness).
