That priority inspired this clever Chris & Chris design, which incorporates four knife slots right into the surface of the cutting board. Given the block’s overall size – 19 inches long and 14 inches wide – there’s more than ample space for food preparation. Plus, the work area of the board includes a groove to capture and contain any juices that arise from your handiwork.
Three inches thick, this beauty tips the scale at 14 pounds, so you will likely make good use of the finger notches carved into both its long sides. Constructed in end-grain style, it features the classic checkerboard design on its surface. This not only enhances beauty, it adds resilience too. That’s because end-grain surfaces are comprised of the highly fibrous ends of sawed wood pieces, which are at the same time both tough and resilient – able to absorb sharp edges without showing many nicks or mars. An added benefit is that end-grain surfaces will not cause knife blades to dull prematurely.
