Teak Makes Absolutely Exotic Wood Cutting Boards
Teak wood contains natural oils that make it durable and resistant to moisture, termites and pests. That’s why it’s frequently used for constructing boats, outdoor furniture and other objects that will be exposed to the elements. That’s also why teak cutting boards stand up well to repeated use even when untreated with butcher block oil or not finished with varnish. The golden brown in teak wood cutting boards comes from the tree’s heartwood, or core. You’ll also find tan and yellows marking its sapwood, or outer rings. Its grain patterns are slightly wavy.
Teak Boards are Especially Strong
Tests for tensile strength, which measure how much stress a material can withstand before failing, show teak to be particularly strong. Teak wood contains silica, albeit at low levels, which can contribute to its coarse texture and some blunting of sharp blades.
This Rectangular Cutting Board Is Edge-Grain Teak
Twenty-four inches long, 18 wide and 1-1/2 inches thick, this beautiful specimen with rounded corners is an edge-grain butcher block. The surface of edge-style, or vertical grain, blocks reveals a vertical cross section of the tree. Individual wood strips are arranged in rows, giving edge-grain boards a cleaner, simpler look compared to other grain styles.
This Teak Butcher Block Is Reversible and Includes Finger Grooves
Convenient hand grips make it easy to transport this cutting board and its cargo from your kitchen counter to the dinner table. They also make it easy to flip the board over so you can access its equally appealing and useful reverse side. One side is plain and the reverse side features a juice groove carved into the surface that catches juice and scraps left over from your carving so they don't spill onto your counters.

Teak cutting boards showcase the rich colors and grain patterns of this tropical wood.
High in oily resin content, teak repels moisture and resists warping, making it ideal for kitchen cutting boards.
