Features
Black walnut is a stunning North American hardwood that produces truly distinct dining table tops. The color palette of walnut includes creamy whites and medium to very dark browns. So as you can imagine, rich-looking walnut tops are best suited for darker settings, such as those typically associated with fine dining establishments.
John Boos & Co. manufactures these table tops featuring gorgeous American Black Walnut in Effingham, Illinois. The company has been making butcher blocks since the 1880s and is recognized as the worldwide butcher block leader. The experience that Boos has gained is quite valuable, since there’s a lot more to making consistently high-quality butcher block than meets the eye. Wood has to be of the right character, aged and dried just right, and assembled into a sturdy unibody by applying the right amounts of adhesive, heat and compression.
Boos makes table tops in walnut and other hardwood varieties in shapes ranging from round to square and from ovals to octagons. They come in several different table top thicknesses, depending on size, and in dimensions as small as a 24-inch square, all the way up to an rounds and octagons 60 inches across.
The standard (default) edge is a Single ¼” Radius on the top portion of the edge ONLY. You have the option of upgrading to a Double ¼” Radius (i.e., on both the top and bottom of the edge).
We are providing the following information as a courtesy, should you wish to search for table bases available from other sources.
Before pandemic-related supply disruptions, Boos & Co. offered four different styles of black metal stands. Options included table supports with disc bases, cross bases or T supports, in “dining height” (28” to the top of the metal “spider” to which the wood attaches) or “bar height” (40-1/2” to the top of the spider). The following table shows previously available base options by table top size.
Black metal disc bases were available for tables 24 to 60 inches long. Black metal cross bases were available for tables 24 to 42 inches in length. Black metal “T” bases were suitable for tables 48 to 144” long. The table below provides details.
The illustrations below show disc base footprints relative to table tops. If you are contemplating purchasing a disc base for your table top, be certain you will be satisfied with how much floor space will be available for tucking chairs under the table. |

Boos will either repair or replace a product determined to be damaged or defective. This warranty does not apply to damage resulting from normal wear and tear, accidents, abuse, neglect, misuse, alterations* or exposure to extreme conditions. Nor does it pertain to wood products ordered unfinished. Neither Boos nor Butcher Block Co. will be held liable for any loss or damage arising from use of products or for any consequential damages.
*Cutting into a Boos countertop (e.g., trimming its length or width or executing a miter cut or a cutout) will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Boos & Co. warrants that the exact length, width and thickness of any countertop will not vary from specifications by more than 1/8 of an inch.
If you decide to cancel your order, please call us immediately. Typically, we are able to cancel an order and issue a full refund if production of the item(s) has not yet begun. If an order is already “in production,” it cannot be canceled for any reason.
If you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason, you may return or exchange it within 30 days of the date of purchase. A 20% restocking fee will apply, since all John Boos products are made-to-order. Plus, you will be responsible for return shipping costs. Boos custom countertops cannot be returned or exchanged, unless the goods arrived in damaged condition and you wrote the word "Damaged" on the shipping receipt.
If you find the identical, brand-new product for less (including shipping & handling) on another website within 3 days of your purchase, email us the URL of the webpage where you found the lower-priced offer. If the online seller is an authorized John Boos dealer, we will refund the difference. Butcher Block Co. will not always be able to match a lower-priced offer (e.g., in cases where doing so would violate legal agreements between us and our manufacturer-partners) and any refund may be limited (e.g., in cases where the competing offer is below our total cost).
