To further preserve and protect butcher block countertops, chopping blocks and cutting boards, after each cleaning, apply BBCO. All-Natural butcher block conditioner. This 100% plant-based formula is perfect for restoring, preserving and protecting all wood surfaces used for food preparation throughout your kitchen.
Our proprietary formula combines Palm Fruit Oil, Grape Seed Oil and Coconut Oil with Rice Bran Wax. The end result is a protective barrier that leaves the wood surface with a sleek look and silky feel. As a final touch, a dash of Citrus Limon Peel Oil imparts a lemon freshness.
We use only RSPO Certified Palm Fruit Oil in our product guaranteeing the sustainability and traceability of the palm oil production throughout the supply chain. The RSPO has production standards for growers that set best practices for producing and sourcing palm oil. Our oils are shelf-stable, and therefore safe for use on wood surfaces and kitchen utensils. Many vegetable and cooking oils are not shelf-stable, can easily go rancid and should never be used to oil wood.
You should condition all butcher block surfaces at least once a month; ideally, after every oiling. To moisturize any wood surface, first apply a generous amount of conditioning oil, then use a clean cloth or plastic bag to spread it evenly. Allow the BBCO. conditioning oil to soak into the wood overnight. The next day, wipe off any excess oil with a paper towel.
BBCO. All-Natural butcher block conditioning oil contains NO Beeswax. While beeswax is natural, it is not necessarily cruelty-free. Beeswax is sourced from the harvesting of honey from beehives, and oftentimes practices employed can prove detrimental to the overall health of the bee population. Additionally, beeswax is a secondary food source for bees and therefore, vital for the survival of the colony. PETA will not certify a product “Cruelty-Free” if it contains beeswax because the taking of bees’ wax is considered cruel. Vegan-friendly BBCO. butcher block moisturizing oil incorporates Rice Bran Wax instead. It’s an even better moisturizing emulsifier than traditional beeswax.
Mineral oil is petrochemical derived from the processing of crude oil, the extraction of which damages the environment. Worse yet, petroleum refineries emit hazardous and toxic air pollutants. Instead, we designed BBCO. butcher block moisturizing oil to be natural and eco-friendly. The formula’s base is Palm Fruit Oil - a natural ingredient extracted from the fleshy fruit of the palm oil tree. Palm Fruit Oil is commonly used across the food industry. In particular, we use only RSPO-Certified Palm Fruit Oil – the origins of which are traceable so its sustainability can be verified.
Since Palm Fruit Oil is shelf-stable and resists going rancid, you can comfortably use it to protect wooden food-prep surfaces throughout your kitchen, especially butcher block countertops and cutting boards. Note that you should never use cooking or vegetable oils on wood surfaces, as most are not shelf-stable and might go rancid.
