Quality wooden table tops can make all the difference in distinguishing a fine eatery or tavern. The wood used in these premium tops is hard maple, harvested exclusively from sustainable North American forests. This maple wood is a lovely blend of soft earth tones: light tans and light to medium browns. The result is a neutral color palette that can complement a wide variety of restaurant, deli or sub shop decors.
Maple is the wood of choice if you’re seeking a lighter, airy feel to your dining or drinking establishment. Because maple’s coloration is soft and generally lighter than other hardwoods, it’s an especially good match for diners that do a brisk lunch business, sandwich shops or casual food service spots such as ice cream shops. Each maple top is finished with Tuff-Var, which adds luster, protects the surface against scratches and dings and makes for quick, easy clean-up.
Boos is recognized as a premier supplier to the commercial food service industry. They’ve been constructing butcher blocks since 1887. During the ensuing century-plus, Boos has optimized every facet of the harvesting and treatment of hard rock maple, and the overall process by which butcher block is made. Boos makes maple table tops in two different grain styles: edge and blended. The only difference between the two is the length of the board stock. Whereas edge-grain blocks feature wood slats that run the full length of the block, blended-grain boards use pieces of different lengths (except for the outside rails) that have been merged into longer rails using finger-jointed construction. That aspect aside, the manufacturing process is similar. These long strips of maple are glued together, side by side, then exposed to high heat and pressure for an extended period of time to ensure superb bonding.
The standard (default) edge is a Single ¼” Radius on the top portion of the edge ONLY. You have the option of upgrading to a Double ¼” Radius (i.e., on both the top and bottom of the edge).
We are providing the following information as a courtesy, should you wish to search for table bases available from other sources.
Before pandemic-related supply disruptions, Boos & Co. offered four different styles of black metal stands. Options included table supports with disc bases, cross bases or T supports, in “dining height” (28” to the top of the metal “spider” to which the wood attaches) or “bar height” (40-1/2” to the top of the spider). The following table shows previously available base options by table top size.
Black metal disc bases were available for tables 24 to 60 inches long. Black metal cross bases were available for tables 24 to 42 inches in length. Black metal “T” bases were suitable for tables 48 to 144” long. The table below provides details.
The illustration below shows disc base footprints relative to table tops. If you are contemplating purchasing a disc base for your table top, be certain you will be satisfied with how much floor space will be available for tucking chairs under the table.

Boos will either repair or replace a product determined to be damaged or defective. This warranty does not apply to damage resulting from normal wear and tear, accidents, abuse, neglect, misuse, alterations* or exposure to extreme conditions. Nor does it pertain to wood products ordered unfinished. Neither Boos nor Butcher Block Co. will be held liable for any loss or damage arising from use of products or for any consequential damages.
*Cutting into a Boos countertop (e.g., trimming its length or width or executing a miter cut or a cutout) will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Boos & Co. warrants that the exact length, width and thickness of any countertop will not vary from specifications by more than 1/8 of an inch.
If you decide to cancel your order, please call us immediately. Typically, we are able to cancel an order and issue a full refund if production of the item(s) has not yet begun. If an order is already “in production,” it cannot be canceled for any reason.
If you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason, you may return or exchange it within 30 days of the date of purchase. A 20% restocking fee will apply, since all John Boos products are made-to-order. Plus, you will be responsible for return shipping costs. Boos custom countertops cannot be returned or exchanged, unless the goods arrived in damaged condition and you wrote the word "Damaged" on the shipping receipt.
If you find the identical, brand-new product for less (including shipping & handling) on another website within 3 days of your purchase, email us the URL of the webpage where you found the lower-priced offer. If the online seller is an authorized John Boos dealer, we will refund the difference. Butcher Block Co. will not always be able to match a lower-priced offer (e.g., in cases where doing so would violate legal agreements between us and our manufacturer-partners) and any refund may be limited (e.g., in cases where the competing offer is below our total cost).
