You’ll Find the Serrated Chroma Type 301 Bread Knife Great for So Much More Than Bread
Bread knives are intended to be used like hand saws. By guiding a serrated knife back and forth through a loaf of bread, you drive its blade steadily deeper. What’s critical to ensuring clean slices is the sharpness of the knife’s blade, and that’s where the Chroma Type 301 bread knife really shines. Its blade is made of Japanese 301 steel, which is renowned for its ability to present a sharper edge right out of the box and to retain razor sharpness through intense, regular use. This makes the Chroma ideal not just for slicing bread, but also for cutting into foods with tough or thick skins, such as oranges, grapefruits, pomegranates or avocados. Using this bread knife’s sharp blade in a back-and-forth saw-like manner will also make it a breeze to slice soft-skinned foods, including tomatoes, that otherwise are prone to collapse under pressure exerted by a less sharp blade or a paring knife.
And Don’t Overlook the Amazing Handle on the Chroma 301 Bread Knife
While the blade of this gorgeous knife designed for cutting bread is certainly noteworthy, be sure to take note of its equally remarkable handle. It was designed by F.A. Porsche, the German engineer who designed the first Porsche 911, working in concert with professional chef and author, Jörg Wörther of Salzburg, Austria, so it essentially blends the best of two worlds – industrial design and culinary practicality. This blending is evidenced by numerous features, including the handle’s triangular shape and taper, which makes it quite comfortable to hold and easy to control, plus it prevents hand fatigue. The raised metal bead you’ll notice in photos marks the knife’s fulcrum, helping the chef find the perfect point to place his or her hand to ensure near-perfect balance. Finally, note the lack of any clear transition between the handle and the blade of the knife. Not only does this deliver a stunning, sleek look, it leaves no niche whatsoever in which bacteria could take hold.
