Really? A Special Knife Designed for Slicing Tomatoes?
There’s nothing worse than slicing into a luscious-looking tomato with a regular kitchen knife and having it collapse under the pressure of the knife’s blade, even a modestly sharp blade. That’s why it’s imperative that you use a serrated knife on such soft foods. Even when dull, serrations on just about any kitchen knife will allow you to cleanly slice into and through tomatoes and other soft-skinned foods. Still, it’s not unreasonable to ask, “Do I really need a knife dedicated to slicing tomatoes?” Well if you love tomatoes and go through a lot of them, then it’s an easy decision. What distinguishes a tomato knife from other serrated knives is the fork on the tip of its blade, designed to make it easy to carve out the tomato’s stem and for spearing tomato slices and moving them atop a sandwich or a salad, or to a plate or a serving platter.
Think All Tomato Knives Are Alike? Think Again
Ok, so you’ve decided you love tomatoes so much that you really do need a kitchen knife specially designed to make carving them both easy and gratifying. Here’s why the Chroma Type 301 is the next right choice. These knives are made of a special type of 301 stainless steel developed by the Japanese over centuries of research and development into optimizing steel for strength and sharpness. It’s hand-sharpened by artisans using a grinding technique that delivers a blade that’s razor-sharp out of the box, and that retains that sharpness longer than do conventional blades. In fact, the typical home chef will need to sharpen a Japanese 301 steel blade only about twice a year. In addition, you’ll love the look and feel of the Chroma Tomato Knife. It’s well-balanced and feels great in the hand.
