Redoing Your Kitchen Counters? Blended Maple Butcher Block Is Timeless. Plus It's Inexpensive.
Hard Rock Maple is far and away the favorite of the North American hardwoods used for making butcher block countertops. Maple is especially rigid, plus its neutral coloration - light tans and soft browns - makes it perfect for nearly any kitchen décor. Maple is considered timeless because it’s as suitable for quaint, country kitchens as it is for contemporary designs. You simply can’t go wrong with Maple; it has universal appeal.
“Blended” describes the butcher block’s grain style. It’s a blend of strips of maple wood of various lengths that produces a “patchwork” design. Each piece contributes its unique coloration and grain pattern to the final “tapestry.” Since small pieces of wood need not be discarded, material costs are lower in blended (aka “jointed edge”) grain boards. The pieces that form each “row” of the board are tightly finger-jointed together and all long planks are bonded together under high heat and pressure to impart great strength.
These John Boos Maple Countertops Come With A Natural Oil Or Varnique Finish
John Boos & Co. has been making butcher block products for over a century. To this day they remain the industry leader. Boos Blocks are popular among professional chefs and home cooks alike. If you too like to cook and you’re looking forward to chopping, slicing, dicing and more on your new counters, then you should choose a natural oil finish. Just be sure to add to your order Boos Mystery Oil or Boos Block Board Cream with Beeswax since you’ll need one or the other in order to prevent your counters from drying out.
Your other finish option is a Boos-proprietary semi-gloss called Varnique. It preserves and protects wood and provides a luster reminiscent of fine furniture. Another advantage is that it’s virtually maintenance free. But note that Varnique surfaces should not be cut upon! Instead, you’ll need to use a cutting board for any slicing, dicing or the like. Don’t fret; we have plenty you can choose among.
Hundreds of Standard Size Butcher Block Countertops To Choose From
