Features
There’s good reason why so many boat decks are made of teak. The natural oil found in this tropical wood makes it water-resistant – an obvious advantage for a kitchen cutting board. Moreover, the tensile strength of teak is quite high, making it a perfect material for chopping boards and blocks. Not only is teak rugged, it’s also stunning in its beauty. Its color palette includes tan and yellow, found in its sapwood or outer rings, plus golden brown, sourced from heartwood (the core of the tree).
Butcher blocks can be constructed in different grain styles. End-grain style butcher’s boards are the strongest and most resilient. In making these boards, 2-1/2-inch-long teak blocks are arranged in a grid pattern, each standing on one end. They are then bonded together to form a tough, cohesive block that can withstand intense pounding and chopping yet be no worse for the wear. Each wood piece in the block is oriented vertically, just as the tree it came from. The ends of each piece become part of the block's top and bottom cutting surfaces; that’s why this construction style is referred to as end-grain style. Each end contributes countless wood fibers to the cutting surface. This fibrous surface is tough but resilient – able to accept sharp blades without suffering damage itself and without damaging its assailant, thereby helping your knives stay sharper longer. The other distinct feature/benefit of end-grain surfaces is their incredible beauty. Each block is essentially an amalgam of rectangles, each showing a small, unique cross section of teak grain.
Cutting boards used for chopping are typically thicker, since they have to withstand excessive force. Two and a half inches thick, this beautiful specimen is no exception. Plus, 20 inches long and 14 wide, it provides ample space for food prep tasks ranging from dicing to chopping. Rounded corners add to its overall beauty, and a full-perimeter juice groove enhances its functionality. This shallow channel carved into the surface of the board will collect the byproducts of your carving handiwork, preventing countertop messes and making for easier disposal and clean-up.

High in oily resin content, teak repels moisture and resists warping, making it ideal for kitchen cutting boards.
